E.J. Taylor completed her first full-length novel at the age of thirteen. She wrote persistently during her teenage years, but her efforts received only rejections and it was soon time to ‘join the real world’. She spent a decade as a secondary-level English teacher where she edited the school newspaper and encouraged many young people to follow their literary dreams. Meanwhile, she eagerly awaited each summer holiday, six weeks away from the intense demands of a teaching career that could be devoted to her creative output. In the shifting landscape of the post-pandemic world, E.J. Taylor decided to pursue her writing fulltime.
Her short story ‘The Slumbering Dragon’ won the 2023 Fiction Factory Flash Fiction Competition. She has also been shortlisted and published in Free Flash Fiction’s Competition Seventeen and longlisted in the 2023 Frome Festival Short Story Competition. She is currently working towards the publication of a Young Adult fantasy trilogy.
E.J. Taylor has a degree in English Literature from the University of Cambridge. She returned from her studies to South Yorkshire, where she lives with her partner. Their home has a custom-built ‘cinebrary’, a fusion of their main interests. She loves many genres of fiction and has a particular affection for Shakespeare. Every year, she pilgrimages to the Globe in London, and she hopes to one day see every play live.
