We are thrilled to welcome the talented Nikki Marmery to DKW as Ella’s newest client! Nikki’s debut Isla Maria, which was shortlisted for the Myriad Editions First Drafts Competition 2017, is a literary historical novel inspired by the true story of Maria, the only woman on the Golden Hind with Francis Drake when he circumnavigated the world in 1577-1580. This is the untold story of one woman’s struggle for freedom and self-possession on the defining voyage of the Elizabethan age of discovery, about the voices missing from the historical record, and the abuse and exploitation of women in male-dominated environments. Evocatively written, with a wonderfully distinctive heroine and immersive settings, it’s a truly special debut and we couldn’t be more pleased to be working with Nikki!
