Catriona Silvey was born in Glasgow and grew up in rural Scotland and England. She spent her schooldays inhaling science fiction and fantasy, and writing and self-illustrating shamelessly derivative stories about foxes.
When she grew up she did a BA in English at Cambridge, and spent the next few years working in scientific publishing. After that she did a PhD in language evolution, in the hope of finding out where all these words came from in the first place.
She is currently based in Chicago, where she spends her time researching child language development and writing fantasy and sci-fi.
Her short stories have been performed at the Edinburgh International Book Festival and shortlisted for the Bridport Prize.← Previous Next →
