HarperCollins buys Catriona Silvey’s debut novel at auction

Natasha Bardon, publishing director at HarperVoyager, has bought at auction UK and Commonwealth rights (exc Canada) to Meet Me In Another Life, a love story by debut author Catriona Silvey. Bryony Woods at Diamond Kahn & Woods negotiated the two-book deal, and Julia Elliott has pre-empted the book for HarperCollins US. It will be published in 2021.

Meet Me In Another Life follows the story of Santi and Thora, who have met again and again in different lives and in different relationships, but who always find a profound connection with each other.

Bardon said: “Catriona deftly weaves a beautiful, complicated story of what it means to love another person. As Thora and Santi’s story unfolds, we see love in all of its guises: romantic love, the love between siblings, the love for a child, all beautifully entwined within the mystery of what is happening to the pair of them. This is crossover fiction at its best – commercial, meaningful and beautifully told. I cannot wait for readers to get their hands on it.”

Elliott said: “Catriona has crafted an unforgettable exploration of the many different forms love can take, and the profound ways in which our actions affect the world around us. There is something here for everyone: touching relationships, heartrending drama, exhilarating thrills, and a compelling mystery that ties it all together. I am so excited for readers to discover this moving and clever story from a confident new voice.”

Silvey, based in Cambridge, is known for her short stories. She said: “I feel like I’ve slipped into an amazing alternate universe – Harper Voyager publish so many of my favourites, and it’s surreal that my book will be in such incredible company. Natasha and the team really understand the characters and their story, and I can’t wait to work with them.”
