Clare Marchant moves from Avon to Boldwood

Boldwood has acquired World English Language rights to four novels by Clare Marchant, from Camille Burns, at DKW, on behalf of Ella Kahn.

Marchant’s first novel with Boldwood will be a gothic historical timeslip story called The House of the Witch:

1645: Ursula Broome believes she has no need for a man and is determined to focus on her work as a midwife and the medicines she sells. But when she rejects the advances of the local physician, Ursula’s life starts to unravel, as an accusation of witchcraft threatens to undo her hard-earned independence.

Present Day: Adrianna Hart has escaped the demands of her job and partner for a dilapidated old cottage in Norfolk. When she finds an unusual gravestone in the cottage’s overgrown garden, she begins to research the cottage and discovers it was once the home of a woman accused of witchcraft in 1645. But the more she uncovers, the more she can see strange and unsettling parallels between their lives…

Two wise women, centuries apart. Two men who want to crush them. One accusation that risks destroying them both.

The House of the Witch will be published by Boldwood in August 2024.
