Curious Fox acquire The Baking Life of Amelie Day by Vanessa Curtis

DKW are delighted to announce that Curious Fox will be publishing The Baking Life of Amelie Day by Vanessa Curtis. The deal, for World English rights, was negotiated between Ella Kahn of Diamond Kahn & Woods Literary Agency and Loraine Taylor, Publisher at Curious Fox.

The Baking Life of Amelie Day is a wonderful novel for 9-12-year-olds combining the mouth-watering British baking obsession with a fabulously determined and honest young heroine. Curious Fox will publish in September 2014 to coincide with the hotly anticipated new series of The Great British Bake Off on BBC One.

Amelie Day loves to bake: cupcakes, biscuits, bread, tarts and muffins – flour power! So she’s thrilled when she makes it through to the quarter-finals of a national competition, ‘Best Teen Baker of the Year’. There’s just one small problem. Amelie has Cystic Fibrosis, which means endless daily rounds of physio and pills, and the threat of being put on the lung transplant waiting list. But Amelie doesn’t want to be defined by her illness, and is determined to prove that she has what it takes to win the competition, even when her over-protective mother forbids her from taking part…

Vanessa Curtis is the award-winning author of several children’s books including The Haunting of Tabitha Grey (Egmont, 2012), and YA historical novel The Earth Is Singing (Usborne, January 2015).

Loraine Taylor says: “We are delighted to welcome award-wining author Vanessa Curtis onto the Curious Fox list. A determined heroine, cakes, family and friendships, what better ingredients for an uplifting story for 9-12 girls.”

Vanessa Curtis says: “I am delighted that my book about a girl who bakes has found such a good home with vibrant new publisher Curious Fox.”

Ella Kahn says: “In Amelie Day, Vanessa has created a deliciously fun yet thought-provoking novel with her trademark lightness of touch. I am thrilled that Curious Fox will be publishing it with the verve and passion it deserves.”
