Lani Yamamoto

Lani is originally from the US but has lived in Iceland for the past 20 years. She is the author/illustrator of five children’s books which have been published in 12 languages. Her most recent book, Stina (V & A Publishing, 2015), was nominated for the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize and the Italian Scelte di Classe Award. In Iceland, it was awarded the Fjoruverdlaunin Women’s Literary Prize and the Dimmalimm Illustration Award.

Previously, Lani worked on documentary programmes for Boston public television, in research, production, and as a film editor, and organised experimental creative-learning environments with children, artists, educators, and scientists.  She studied psychology at Bryn Mawr College and filmmaking at the London Film School, and holds master degrees in both Creative Writing and the Study of Religions from the University of Oxford.

Lani is writing her first novel.
