Beatrice Mansfield is a freelance illustrator inspired by nature. She enjoys working on projects such as personalised book plates and bathroom tiles decorated with bespoke illustrations, and her ranges of household ceramics, made in collaboration with potter Katie Brinsley, are sold in shops throughout the UK.
As artist in residence at Battersea Park Children’s Zoo, Beatrice runs nature inspired art workshops for children aged two to eleven. She is currently working on a book which has developed from the diaries and sketchbooks she has made during her Year at the Zoo. Beatrice is a firm believer that nature is science and it is art, and that playing with sticks and looking at worm poos is sure to help anyone have a better understanding of the world. She aims to encourage the next generation of conservationists to cherish the world around us.
Beatrice also works with Dr Lil Stevens, an expert in Palaeozoic Palaeobotany at the Natural History Museum, looking at the relationship between art, nature and science and how artists and scientists can benefit one another. She is writing an illustrated nature column for Scoop, a new printed newspaper for children which is currently being trialled in schools, and is training to be a Forest School practitioner with the Sussex Wildlife Trust.
