Andersen Press to Publish Nicole Burstein

DKW are thrilled to announce another exciting deal: Andersen Press are to publish Othergirl, the brilliant debut novel from Nicole Burstein. Charlie Sheppard acquired World rights in Othergirl and a second untitled teen novel from agent Bryony Woods.

Nicole Burstein currently works at Waterstones’ flagship Piccadilly store and is well known throughout the industry as an expert in the field of children’s and YA literature, and for championing authors and books for readers of all ages.

Othergirl tells the story of Louise, an ordinary teenage girl whose life is turned upside down when her best friend discovers that she has super-powers – a warm, funny and poignant coming-of-age story about teenage friendships, superheroes and saving the world whilst wearing penguin pyjamas.

Nicole Burstein said: “To work with Charlie and the team at Andersen is a dream come true. I’ve become a huge fan of her list whilst working as a bookseller and I can’t think of a better publisher to call my home.”

Charlie Sheppard said: “Nicole is a fantastic bookseller who has put many wonderful books into the hands of young readers over the years. But at the same time, she was busy cooking up her own fabulous story and I’m really pleased that Andersen will be able to publish that for her and introduce her as an exciting new voice in the teen genre.”

Bryony Woods said: “I’ve known Nicole in her role as a children’s bookseller for several years, and always knew she would make a fantastic writer for teens. So when I first read Othergirl, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. This novel has everything: it’s fun, fast-paced and overflowing with warmth, wit, and the feelings that so many teenagers (and adults too) can identify with – that desperate need to find a place in an often baffling grown-up world.”

Andersen plan to publish Othergirl in physical and ebook format in 2014.
